Polly Barrett was born about 1775 in Upper Marlboro, Prince Georges County, Maryland. She was the daughter of Jonathan Barrett and Margaret Gilpin. Little is currently known about the life of my 4th Great Grandmother Polly. If her year of birth is correct then she would have been 24 years old when she married our 4th great grandfather Ezekiel Eades. The couple were married 12 January, 1799 in Rowan County, North Carolina. Polly was the mother of ten children, six sons and four daughters. We descend through their son John Eads, born about 1800 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. John would go on to marry Mary Polly Massey, daughter of James Massey and Jane Morrison. You can read more about them on Grandfather Johns pages here on this website. It is not known the exact date of Grandmother Polly's death, we do know that when her father Jonathan died on 21 August, 1840, Polly was listed as deceased in his will. She must have died sometime between the day after the 1840 Census was enumerated and the death date of her father in August 1840.
Polly's father was a wealthy Southern Planter who owned a Plantation in Rowan/Davidson County, North Carolina. Great Grandfather Jonathan owned quite a few slaves and had several children, all siblings of Grandmother Polly. When Polley's Mother died, Grandfather Jonathan married his second wife Sophia Beck-Barrett. Sophia would outlive her husband by quite a few years.
