Ezekiel Eades 1774-1860
I have created a timeline for Ezekiel Eades and his family. So its easier to keep track of I have chosen to add his children on the one timeline as opposed to creating seperate ones for each child. I have color coded each child in the timeline. That way it makes it much easier to look and see where this family migrated. I will be working on and adding to this timeline in the days to come. Its a work in progress. I have it set to automatically update as changes are made so you are always looking at the newest copy.
About Ezekiel Eades
Ezekiel Eades was born about 1774 in Rowan County, North Carolina. He was the son of John Eads Sr. I have seen this same John Eads mentioned in various family trees as having the middle name of Simpson and have also seen him listed combined with what looks like a man named Isaac Eades, it appears both gentleman have been merged into one. It is this researchers opinion that those are incorrect assumptions. I have not seen any documentation anywhere regarding John having the middle name of Simpson nor the name of Isaac. For the purpose of my research, I have chosen to refer to him as simply John Eades Sr. It is not currently known who the mother of Ezekiel Eades was.
The first record we have of Ezekiel Eades is his marriage to Polly Barrett on 12 Jan 1799 in Rowan County, North Carolina (1). Polly was the daughter of a wealthy Southern Planter named Jonathan Barrett and his wife Margaret Gilpin.
It is not currently known exactly when Ezekiel and Polly left Rowan County, but it must have been shortly after their marriage because their oldest son and my third great grandfather, John Eades was born about 1800 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Ezekiel owned about fifty acres of land on the Brushy Creek area probably in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Said land was sold for taxes due and a notification of such sale was published in the Weekly Raleigh Register, 17 Aug 1809, Thu, Page 3

In 1811, Ezekiel was listed as a witness to a will of one Buckner Caudell, relationship if any to Ezekiel is currently unknown(.2 ) Said Buckner Caudell was born about 1750 in Chatham County, North Carolina and died Feb 1823 in Rowan County, North Carolina. Said Buckner was married to one Elizabeth Lewis, Buckner was the son of Isham Caudel and Elizabeth Buckner.Ezekiel was a witness to the will of Buckner Caudel, not yet deceased in Rowan County, North Carolina, along with a John Stinchcomb. Relationship Unknown. In February of 1823 we find Ezekiel gave a statement validating the will of the then deceased Buckner Caudell as being true in fact. (3)
Ezekiel and his wife Polly Barrett Eades lived in the Gilreaths District in Wilkes County, North Carolina. The couple had several children, some of them were named in the will of Polly's father Jonathan Barrett.(4) Polly died before 1840, as her fathers will was probated in Davie County, North Carolina in the year 1840. Polly was listed as deceased within said will and six heirs of Polly were named within the will, all being referred to as the Children of his Deceased Daughter Polly Eades. The six names mentioned were Allen McDonald and his wife Becky, Jane, Isaac, Gilpin and Ezekiel Eades. However, summons were issued in the same estate for John Eades, Jane Eades, Isaac Eades, Gilpin Eades , Ezekiel Eades and Allen and Becky McDonald. Since the John Eades was not mentioned as being a child of Polly Barrett, it makes one wonder was this the John Sr Eades being summoned or was it indeed Polly and Ezekiel's son John?
After grandmother Polly Barrett Eades died, grandfather Ezekiel married for the second time to one Hannah Vest. Hannah's parents are currently unknown. Ezekiel and Hannah were married 9 April, 1854 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Their marriage bond was dated 5 April 1854, Bond # 000164988, Witness to the marriage was one Joshua Laws, relationship unknown. (5)
After the 1860 Census, Ezekiel disappears, it is believed that he must have died in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Place of burial is unknown to this researcher.
